Syllabus

Course Objectives

The student at the end of the course will be able to:
1. understand the basic ideas of simple and relatively complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics;
2. interact with some fluency and spontaneity. He/she will be able to produce clear texts on the topics covered, being able to clarify his/her point of view, with relative fluency.

Teaching Methods

Interactive lessons (communicative method), with audio tracks, videos and related exercises, conversations.

Assessment Methods

Written final examination.

- Motivation mainly through oral interaction activities and the presence of subtitled and untitled pictures and videos to support vocabulary.
- Attention to cross-cultural aspects.
- Communicating (actions):
Introducing oneself, expressing likes and dislikes, asking about getting around town, talking about leisure time, describing one's day, making arrangements, interacting in stores, asking and giving directions.
- Lexicon:
greetings, expressions with being and having, expressions of time, numbers, leisure activities, adjectives to describe people, places and food, places in the city, means of transportation, musical instruments, food and drink, buildings and objects, family, parts of the day, days of the week, adverbs and expressions of frequency and time, leisure activities and places, foods, expressions indicating quantity, words to place in space.
- Structures:
present indicative of regular, irregular and reflexive verbs, imperative, past perfect and past participle of regular verbs, determinative and indeterminative articles, gender and number of nouns and adjectives, simple and articulate prepositions, coordinating conjunctions, possessive adjectives, third person direct pronouns and indirect pronouns, pleasure, there is/there are.
