The main objective of the course is to provide an introduction to different artistic techniques through the acquisition of a method of observation and analysis. During the course, the student will become accustomed with general theoretical skills through the analysis of specific works of art. The students are expected to acquire: - knowledge of the main treatises of art tecniques - ability to recognize and describe the material and the technique of the different works of art - ability to critically observe works of art as an inseparable synthesis of thought and material - knowledge of the specific language to describe works of art
Course Prerequisites
The course needs basic art history knowledge. Students who have not yet taken an Art History exam can still attend the course, but are required to communicate this to the teacher
Teaching Methods
The course is taught in a blended format. Half of the lessons will be available online asynchronously, while the other half will be taught in presence. Detailed information will be available on the KIRO course page. Students who are authorized to benefit from inclusive/innovative teaching must contact the teacher to arrange specific meetings dedicated to them.
Assessment Methods
Oral exam based on the program developed in class, on the bibliography recomended in class and on the analysis of images seen in class. Evaluation of contents, analysis and observation skills, expository ability and knowledge of specific terminology.

Contents
The course includes a general introduction to the most important treatises regarding artistic techniques. Some techniques will be considered through the analysis of single works. A final part will be dedicated to wooden sculpture in Lombardy from the Fifteenth century to the early Eighteenth century considering some of the main artists. Lectures supported by presentations. Visits for the direct observation of the works of art will be organised.
