Through the analysis of a masterpiece of twentieth-century Italian literature, Carlo Emilio Gadda’s L’Adalgisa, the course provides knowledge of the methods of analysis and comprehension of a linguistically and thematically complex literary text.
Course Prerequisites
A basic humanistic background and a language proficiency in Italian appropriate to the comprehension of literary language are requested.
Teaching Methods
The course is organized in classroom-taught lessons, with the constant interaction of the students. After the first introductory lessons they will be concretely involved in the reading and in the analysis of Gadda’s text.
Assessment Methods
The students will have an oral exam during the sessions following the end of the course. The exam will consist of a series of questions relating to Gadda’s texts taken into consideration during the course, in particular L’Adalgisa, which will verify the understanding of the specific interpretative problems.
