The course aims to provide basic skills in museology necessary for training in the field of art history. In particular, the course offers knowledge relating to the history of collecting and museums from the modern age to the contemporary age, accompanied by in-depth studies of specific cases and types of museums or periods considered significant. The aim of the course is to develop students' ability to understand the complexity of historical and cultural situations relating to the history of museums.
Course Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the humanities is required, especially in the fields of literature and history relating to the period in question. It is also advisable to have acquired knowledge of the history of artistic production and the basic categories of criticism and periodisation, as well as knowing how to use the specific terminology.
Teaching Methods
Teaching will be classroom-based with PowerPoint presentations; visits to museums and meetings with museum professionals or museologists are also planned.
Assessment Methods
The knowledge and skills required will be assessed through an oral interview with questions. Preparation will be considered adequate if students demonstrate their ability to express themselves using appropriate terminology and show knowledge of the history of museums in the various historical periods analysed. The achievement of a comprehensive understanding of the topics covered during the lessons, together with good critical skills, expressive mastery and specific language skills, will be assessed with very good or excellent marks (28-30 with honours); a predominantly mnemonic or poorly developed acquisition of content and linguistic and logical skills that are not always adequate will be assessed with a grade ranging from fair (21-24) to good (25-27); a minimum level of knowledge of the course content, combined with gaps in training or inadequate linguistic and logical skills, will lead to a pass mark (18-20); the absence of a minimum level of knowledge of the course content, combined with inadequate linguistic and logical skills and gaps in training, will result in a fail mark (<18/30)
