Syllabus
Course Objectives
The formal teaching introduces the use of specialised French through the reading and comprehension of the text on the topic 'La guerre permanente'. It also aims to complete and consolidate understanding of the specialised text by providing the technical and critical tools for assessing the communicative intentions of the authors examined. The teaching is supported by supplementary teaching that takes place during the first and second semesters, the objective of which is the study of the language in contexts based on the main communicative functions inherent to historical, economic, political and social themes, the gradual development of both receptive and productive skills. Supplementary teaching to the French Language 1 and 2 courses is provided by a Collaborator Language expert on duty.

Frontal lectures Supplementary teaching of French Language 1 and French Language 2 will be given by a Collaborator Language Expert on duty.
Assessment Methods
The oral examination is always preceded by a written preparatory test for the first and second courses. Test of grammar, written and oral comprehension, written production (French Language 1). Oral exam for French Language 1: reading, translation and revision of the topics studied.

In order to practise comprehension, students are invited to read daily, weekly and monthly newspapers ( Le Monde, Le Monde diplomatique, Dossiers et documents, L'Express, Le Figaro, L'OBS, Le Nouvel Observateur, Le Point ) to watch television programmes (TV5, France 1, France 2, France 5, ) and to use audio or audiovisual documents from TV5 Monde and France Culture. Non-attending students must supplement the programme with additional readings that will be indicated by the lecturer. For further information, students are asked to contact the lecturer in charge and to consult the Department's website.
