At the end of the course the student will be able to analyze various morpho-syntactic, lexical and pragmatic aspects of academic and professional texts with a competence at a B2 level of the CEFRL.
Course Prerequisites
Students must have passed the English language exam Lingua inglese A (or equivalent) or have achieved a level equal to B1+ of the CEFRL
Teaching Methods
Lectures and active participation of students in the analysis and production of texts. Didattica integrativa (supplementary didactics).
Assessment Methods
The final written exam aims to verify the knowledge of the contents of the course, of the specific terminology and the general competence in English. The final exam is made of two parts: 1) A preliminary test (prova propedeutica) administered by the Addestratore Linguistico with tasks at the B2 level of the CEFR, including grammar exercises and summary writing; 2) Written exam (esame docente) on the contents of the course presented in class and available in the reference books. The exam consists in language analysis tasks and open questions on theoretical issues. The final mark will be determined by the evaluation in the written exam.

Contents
The course deals with the study of various types of specialized texts from a range of academic and professional contexts, with a focus on reception and production. The course is complemented with "didattica integrativa" (supplementary teaching) carried out by the Addestratore Linguistico (Ms Claire Archibald) throughout the first semester.

Students must pass the preliminary test (prova propedeutica) before sitting the written exam. The preliminary test can be taken in January, June and September (3 dates available) and is valid for 13 months.
Language certificates can be handed in as a replacement for the prova propedeutica. The students who would like to hand in a language certificate MUST read carefully the terms and conditions included in the Guida Didattica.
