Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (22/09/2025 - 19/12/2025)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

Students will reach a B1 level of Spanish language (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), developing oral and writing comprehension and production skills through the deepening of the knowledge of the morpho-syntactic and lexical structures of the Spanish language. At the end of the course, students will be able to understand the main points of clear texts on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc., and to cope with most of the situations that might arise on a trip to areas where the language is used. They will be able to produce simple, coherent texts about topics that are familiar to them or of personal interest, and describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes and ambitions, as well as briefly giving reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. They can narrate a story or relate the plot of a book or film.

Course Prerequisites

A2 level of Spanish.

Teaching Methods

The course will include lectures and laboratory sessions with active student participation. Practical activities and exercises will be conducted to enhance skills in reading and text comprehension, written production, listening and speaking, translation, and textual commentary.

Assessment Methods

The final exam consists of a written test and an oral test (access to the oral test is granted only upon successful completion of the written component). The written exam (which lasts approximately 2 hours) includes 5–10 grammar exercises of various types (multiple choice, completion, transformation, translation) and a linguistic-textual commentary of 150-200 words on a Spanish text. The commentary will be assessed based on morphological and orthographic accuracy, appropriate use of the grammatical structures studied during the course, and overall coherence and cohesion. The use of dictionaries is not permitted. The written test will be considered satisfactory (18/30) if at least 60% of the grammar exercises are answered correctly and if an adequate command of language and vocabulary is demonstrated in the textual commentary. During the oral exam students are expected to interact on communicative and lexical content covered during the course.

Texts

R. Pinilla Gómez e A. San Mateo Valdehíta, ELExprés, 3.ª edición. Libro del alumno, Madrid, SGEL (ISBN: 9788419065377). More information and teaching materials will be provided during the course.
