The course aims to analyse the XVIII century literary scene, with particular reference to the narrative field (short story). It is also designed to offer the rudiments of history and literature and to enable the student to deal effectively with French literature from its origins down to the end of the XVIII century.

A knowledge of the French language corresponding to the programme of the first year.

Oral exam, in French. The exam aims at testing the student's French knowledge and of the topics discussed during the course.

Students must be capable of expounding the history of French literature from the Middle Age to the end of Eighteenth century; the following manual is recommended:
