The purpose of this course is to provide a good knowledge of the history of the Medieval Romance Literatures, with a particular focus on genres, themes and traditions. At the end of the course, students will have to be able to identify the most relevant features of the main medieval Romance literary genres (epic, lyric poetry, romance), particularly by reading and discussing the texts analyzed during the lectures.
Course Prerequisites
Only for students who have previously succeded in "Filologia romanza A".
Teaching Methods
Lectures. Powerpoints will be projected and the interaction with the class will be promoted when possible and useful. Individual reading (if the case) of selected works in modern translation.
Assessment Methods
Oral examination. The examination will assess the students' knowledge of texts and genres of medieval Romance Literatures and their proficiency in translating and analyzing linguistically, stylistically and literarily the texts analyzed during the lectures.
Non-attending students are expected to get in touch with the teacher as soon as possible, in order to define the examination's criteria.

Contents
"Alterity in the Medieval Romance Literature".
The course will focus on the literary representation of Alterity and, by extension, on the literary construction of Identity in the main genres of Medieval Romance literature (lyric, epic, novel). Origins, formal features and tradition of these genres will also be discussed through the reading, translation and commentary of selected texts.
